Organizer Mangalsinh Solanki, garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi with cotton thread.

A report from Vadodara said former Union Minister Shankersinh Vaghela addressed a large gathering at Dandia Chowk to mark the occasion and charged the Narendra Modi-led BJP government with wasteful expenditure on publicity stunts while vast majority of people were facing numerous problems. The number of the state's BPL families which remained at 27 lakh in 2005 had gone up to 36 lakhs last year, he added.
